Aishwarya Rai to play ‘Rani of Jhansi’
Aishwarya Rai has been chosen to play the coveted role of Jhansi Rani in the film ‘Rani of Jhansi- Lakshmi Bai’, directed by Ketan Mehta. If you can forgive the fact that Ketan made something like ‘Mangal Pandey- The Rising’, he is a good director. Who can forget ‘Mirch Masala’. But it seems he is all set to prove people wrong that he cannot do a period film.
Sushmita Sen had said in every possible interview that she wanted to portray the Rani of Jhansi in a film and she will produce it, but unfortunately Ketan Mehta took the rights for the film and signed Aishwarya Rai for the role. Sushmita was not even considered for the role.
Mehta is completing the script for the film and he has planned his cast, which includes the British actors too. Aishwarya will be undergoing rigorous training for the sword-fights on horses. She has done two action films before, both not released yet. One a Hollywood film ‘Last Legion’ and another Bollywood film ‘Jodha-Akbar’, so this won’t be a difficult feat, we hope.
